FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
The Alliance of Women Owned Businesses has announced the Nomination and Application Period for The Crystal Star Awards is open.
AWOB’s Crystal Star Awards are presented to exceptional women business owners whose leadership, creativity and success in their business and community have enhanced and empowered many other women business owners in the four-county region it serves.
After a very successful inaugural Awards Event in 2012, AWOB intends to best its own efforts bi-annually and is reaching farther to spread the word, raise awareness, and find as many qualified Nominees and Applicants as possible.
The two original Crystal Star Awards include the Rising Star Award, recognizing a woman entrepreneur primarily responsible for a new business of less than five years; who demonstrates business growth and participates in her community. The Crystal Star Award recognizes the woman entrepreneur, currently running her successful business for more than five years, showing profitability and actively participating in community or charitable causes she champions.
New for 2014, the organization is adding the Shining Star Award, which will go to an AWOB Alliance member who demonstrates entrepreneurial leadership while contributing to the mission and vision of AWOB.
Julie Thomson, owner of Family First Adult Family Homes, was one of three finalists for the 2012 Crystal Star Award. She recommends that community consider their local women business owners and who they might want to nominate.
In 2012, Julie says she hesitated to accept her nomination at first because she was not sure she would meet the qualifications. “The exercise of completing the application and judging process forced me to reflect on all our company’s accomplishments and the ideas that brought us to where we are now. AWOB made the entire experience warm and enjoyable for all involved.”
To be considered, nominees for these awards should be successful business owners holding at least a 50% ownership; may be a solo or partner; have employees or subcontracted workers; and will be active in her business in Kitsap, Pierce, Mason or Thurston counties.
Nomination and Application forms will be available after November 1st online at www.AWOBwomen.org/crystal-star and will be accepted between November 1, 2013 and January 31, 2014. Finalists and winners will be announced at a Gala Crystal Star Awards Event in May 2014.
